The Neches River Runners is a non profit organization dedicated to conservation and education which has as its primary activity the organization and staging of the Neches River Wilderness Canoe Race, the annual fund raiser and community event for the special needs scholarship fund at the Trinity Valley Community College.
The Neches Wilderness Canoe Race began as a fund raiser sponsored by the Trinity Valley Community College Palestine Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the National Honor Fraternity for American Junior Colleges. When Candice Dillon asked Ed Furman"What can we do for our scholarship fundraiser" Ed says...
Over the past 29 years the Neches Wilderness Canoe Race have raise funds in excess of $35,000 and have provided over 100 scholarships to deserving students. The scholarship program benefits a variety of students with special needs including returning adults, single parents, veterans, and recent high school graduates.
We are always looking for more volunteers to help everything run smooth. If you want to get involved then contact one of us or show up at the race with a willing heart. We appreciate all of our current volunteers for all of your service!
